Here at Heart and Soul we believe in treating the underlying causes of illness and not just treating symptoms with a barrage of prescriptions. One way we accomplish this is by incorporating what we call the 5 Pillars of Health – Hormonal Balance, Nutrition, Fitness, Stress Management, and Sleep Optimization. In order for you to be healthy, feel good, and look and age well it is necessary for each of these areas to be operating at their optimal function and in balance.

In order to evaluate these areas, we use Restorative Medicine testing to help determine where there may be a problem. Restorative Medicine testing, or RM testing, is composed of 3 non-invasive tests that look at your body at the cellular level and provide important information about your health and wellness. The tests do not produce any risk or discomfort for clients, and can be done in a matter of minutes. These evaluations will identify how well your body responds to stress and any autonomic nervous system and adrenal dysfunctions, screens for neurotransmitter and gut health, cardiovascular health and arteriosclerosis, biological markers of aging, and measures basal metabolic rate, muscle mass, cellular health and toxicity burden on your body.

Heart Rate Variability

1.     Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is a five minute test using specialized EKG technology to evaluate how your heart and autonomic nervous system is functioning and can help discover hidden health problems. The autonomic nervous system is the master controller of all bodily functions and the body. HRV testing shows how well a person adapts to changes in the environment and how well your body is handles stress. Studies have shown that low heart rate variability is a valuable indicator or predictor of illness and mortality.
2.     In a healthy individual there is a balance between the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) that constantly changes to meet the needs of the body’s emotions, thoughts, or activities. An imbalance indicates stress and science now confirms that stress significantly increases the risk of heart disease, including sudden cardiac death. This unmanaged emotional stress is equally if not more important than physical variables in determining health outcomes. A conservative estimate is 75% of visits to primary care physicians are due to stress-related disorders. With HRV we can determine your stress and fitness levels and make recommendations on how to improve your results.

Digital Pulse Analysis

1.     The Digital Pulse Analyzer (DPA) uses non-invasive, pulse wave technology to look at arterial elasticity which is an important preventive measure in overall cardiovascular health. Testing uses a small clip that is placed on a finger to observe the changes in pressure, blood flow, velocity and profile throughout the whole pulse wave. The DPA collects and presents data on arterial wall stiffness and determines the biological age of arteries in less than three minutes.
2.     The DPA can also monitor the effectiveness of treatment modalities-whether they are lifestyle changes such as exercise supplementation or pharmaceutical medications. If a particular treatment is effective, you will see an improvement in your DPA test.
3.     Cardiovascular disease continues to be the number one killer for both men & women throughout North America. If symptoms have developed, laboratory tests can help confirm that a problem does exist. But a normal test result is just as significant as an abnormal result. A normal result does not mean that a test was unnecessary. When a result is normal, it not only helps rule out disease, but is also establishes a baseline “normal”.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) is considered one of the most reliable and accessible methods of screening body fat. BIA is measured when a very small electrical signal carried by water and fluids is passed through the body. It measures the impedance or resistance to the signal as it travels through the water that is found in muscle and fat. The more muscle a person has, the more water their body can hold. The greater the amount of water in a person’s body, the easier it is for the current to pass through it. The more fat, the more resistance to the current. The technology is relatively simple, quick, and non-invasive.

1.     By using the impedance measurements along with a person’s height and weight, and body type, it is possible to calculate the percentage of body fat, fat-free mass, hydration level, and other body composition values.
2.     Using BIA to estimate a person’s body fat assumes that the body is within normal hydration ranges. When a person is dehydrated, the amount of fat tissue can be overestimated. Factors that can affect hydration include not drinking enough fluids, drinking too much caffeine or alcohol, exercising or eating just before measuring, certain prescription drugs or diuretics, illness, or a woman’s menstrual cycle.
3.     BIA will show the following composition results for your body:

Total Body Water: The total amount of fluid in the body.
Body Cell Mass: The total mass of all the metabolically active components of the body such as the muscles, internal organs, and blood.  It’s a sensitive indicator of nutritional status.
Total Fat: Shows fat percentage of healthy and unhealthy weight.  Excess levels are associated with increased risk for a wide variety of cardiac conditions.
Extra Cellular Mass: The support mass of the body, consisting of extra cellular fluids, bones and cartilage. Its primary function is to support and transport nutrients, wastes and fluids.
Phase Angle: This is a measurement of the cell membrane’s health. The higher the phase angle, the healthier cell membrane and over all cellular health and function.
Cellular Health: By measuring Phase Angle and Capacitance.

What is our Heart and Soul Weight Loss philosophy?

We believe a professionally supervised medical weight loss program is an important factor in your quest for weight loss. With the aid of a structured medical approach, weight loss is no longer such an insurmountable challenge. Losing those pounds now becomes an achievable goal that can be realized relatively quickly, and most importantly, safely for your health. Our successful medically supervised weight loss programs typically include:

  • Laboratory blood testing
  • Weekly visits
  • Nutrition planning
  • Body detoxification
  • Dietary/Vitamin supplementation
  • Healthy exercise
  • Medical supervision
  • Hormone replacement therapy if needed
  • Normal health care issues addressed

Key Advantages of a Medical Weight Loss Program

Medical Supervision

Special care is needed when attempting to lose weight, especially if you are considerably over-weight or obese. Weight gain can cause significant health challenges in the body and should be carefully monitored by a health care professional.

Customized Weight Loss Plan

We will take into consideration your current state of health, body type, weight loss goals, and other important factors when designing a custom weight loss program for you. All health related aspects must be prioritized to ensure safe and successful weight reduction. Heart and Soul offers several programs from which to choose, tailored to fit each individual.

Nutrition Expertise

Many diets commonly deprive you of the essential nutrients your body needs on a daily basis. What you eat, and what you don’t eat, has an enormous impact on your overall health and vitality. A medical weight loss program consists of a professionally designed customized nutrition plan that will ensure your weight loss is healthy, safe, and effective. For example, we see many clients with autoimmune diseases who exhibit a gluten intolerance. Over the last 50 years, the prevalence of gluten intolerance has increased substantially! We can help educate you on understanding gluten and how gluten effects your body.

Coaching with Professional Advice

We can provide you with the necessary coaching support that is so vital to success in a weight loss program. Diet and exercise programs don’t offer the medical know-how, experience, and professional support a medically supervised weight loss program does. Our one on one weight loss coaching can help improve your self-control and self-esteem and enhance your peace of mind.

Long Term Solution

Our medical weight loss programs are designed to provide practical long term solutions. It is our hope to educate you about living a healthy lifestyle so you will be able to maintain a healthy weight, long term without counting calories.

A healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals is the best way to nourish your body but sometimes the body has trouble obtaining these nutrients through natural digestive functions. On average, only 40% of supplements taken orally are actually absorbed into your body. Conditions such as stress, a medical illness, or food intolerances can inhibit the absorption of important substances such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, C, folicacid, glutathione, or biotin. In these cases, injecting those nutrients directly into the blood stream may be the best option to ensure that your body is getting what it needs.

Uses of IV Therapy

Nutritional IV treatments can be used for a wide variety of reasons and the IV that is right for you is chosen based on your individual needs. Treatments may be helpful for:

  • Fatigue
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Stress
  • Before/After Surgery
  • Allergies
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Colds and Flu
  • Viral Illness
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Gastrointestinal Problems
  • Vitamin Deficiencies

What Can I Expect?

Your nutritional IV will be given right here in the office and the amount of time it takes will depend upon your infusion.  Treatments times can vary from ten minutes up to four hours. Many patients choose to bring a book to read, work on their computer, or just take a relaxing nap. We even provide pillows and blankets to ensure your comfort.

How Many Do I Need?

The number of treatments recommended for you will be determined by your provider and based upon your individual needs. Patients are initially advised to receive anywhere from one to four treatments and then reevaluated to determine the necessity of additional treatments.

How Much Does It Cost?

Because we believe nutritional IV treatments are so beneficial, we have worked to provide them at the lowest price possible. Most IV treatments are $140 and optional add-ons are an additional $40. We offer a discount when purchasing a package of treatments. Please be aware that these treatments are not covered by insurance.

Intravenous Therapy Preparation

Plan ahead and schedule your appointment for a time when you will not be in a hurry. It is unsafe and less effective to administer treatments faster than recommended.
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated before your appointment.
Eat a meal before your appointment and bring a snack if desired. Vitamin infusions on an empty stomach may cause nausea.
Don’t forget to bring a book or laptop. Just remember you might only have one free hand!

Types of IV Therapy

There are a number of IV therapies designed to either treat specific conditions or just promote overall wellness. Here are some of the ones we offer:

Gold Executive Health – customized to reduce stress levels and also used for burnout and fatigue. Complete package with highest concentration of vitamins/nutrients.
Bronze Booster Mini – our most popular IV with high levels of Vitamin C, magnesium and calcium. Promotes the immune system and heart health. Used to fight chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and many other issues.
Platinum Plus Anti-Viral – a specialized anti-viral and immune booster used for hepatitis, mononucleosis, and other conditions.
Silver Solution – another specialized IV used primarily for acute infections. Kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Has powerful healing properties.
Glutathione Push – extremely powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Improves liver and brain functions, leading to improved memory while helping to lower the risk of dementia, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, neuropathy, and liver disease.
Meyer’s Push – used to treat a number of conditions such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, muscle spasm, asthma, hives, congestive heart failure, chest pain, infections, and senile dementia.
Alpha Lipoic Acid – Helps those suffering from diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity and lowering blood sugar levels.

Are you experiencing any of these symptoms: Fatigue, Forgetfulness, Sadness, Irritability, Less Enthusiasm, Less Interest in Sex, Erectile Dysfunction, Weight Gain, Arthritis Pain, Feeling Old, Insomnia, Sweats, or Hot Flashes?

Could Bioidentical Hormone Therapy Be Your Answer?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy— Safe, Natural, Medically Supervised

Heart and Soul, our providers work with women and men to create comprehensive, preventive treatment programs using bioidentical hormone therapy combined with proper nutrition and exercise. This integrated, medical/lifestyle approach helps alleviate the pain and suffering caused by conditions such as menopause (and signs of early menopause), perimenopause, PMS, stress induced adrenal fatigue, and andropause (male menopause).

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

As the name indicates, bioidentical hormones are identical in structure to the natural hormones produced in the human body. Though bioidentical hormones are produced in a lab from plant matter, their molecular structures are modified to be exact replicas of your body’s natural hormones. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy differs from traditional hormone replacement therapy, which uses synthetic hormones, produced from animals (often pigs and horses), which are foreign to the human body. Because the hormones that are naturally produced in humans are different than those produced in animals, your body often views these animal hormones as foreign, which can create an immune response and side effects. Your body views bioidentical hormones as similar to hormones it produces itself and is thus considered a safe and effective alternative.

Some examples of bioidentical hormones used in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy that Heart and Soul may choose to prescribe include: progesterone, estrodiol, testosterone, DHEA, melatonin, thyroid hormones, or others as needed. These natural hormones may be administered by various means including pellets, creams, gels, pills, injections or skin patches. Here at Heart and Soul we will work with you to determine which method is best for you.

An Integrated Lifestyle Approach to Natural Hormone Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy is one of the many tools Heart and Soul may use when optimizing a person’s wellbeing. Hormones regulate nearly every metabolic process in your body, thus, BHRT is widely used in the treatment of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism which are responsible for your body’s metabolism. When your hormones are not properly balanced, your metabolic functions can be affected resulting in symptoms, reduction in quality of life, and if not treated, ultimately disease. It also becomes much more difficult for your body to benefit from optimized nutrition and fitness. With a healthy lifestyle comprised of regular exercise and a well balanced diet, bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) can be a great adjunct to a preventive health strategy.

For more information about BHRT, call 830-693-Well (9355) or contact us online.
